How long does it take to get your tax refund?
We know that you work hard for your money and for some Canadians, a tax refund may be the biggest check you get all year. If you’re like us, you must be wondering, “Where is my refund?”, once you file your taxes. According to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), if you file your taxes electronically using NETFILE certified programs, such as CloudTax, you can receive your refund in just two weeks of filing. If you file your tax return on or before the due date of April 30th, CRA will send a NOA and any tax refunds within:
- Two weeks of receiving your electronically filed return
- Eight weeks of receiving your paper-filed return
- 16 weeks of receiving your non-resident paper-filed return
Furthermore, refunds can be received faster if you choose to use direct deposit. Just remember that CRA does not process tax returns until mid-February. In other words, even if you file your taxes before the end of January, you may not receive your refund until much later. So, if you are looking forward to receiving your big fat cheque the fastest way possible, file your taxes electronically using CloudTax Free.
