By registering for CRA My Account, a lot of your questions can be answered. My Account is a secure portal that lets you view your personal income tax and benefit information and manage your tax affairs online.

Setting up for CRA’s My Account is very easy and only involves two steps: 

First, make sure you have a few pieces of personal information ready:

  • Social insurance number
  • Date of birth
  • Current postal code 

You will also be asked to enter an amount you entered on one of your income tax and benefit returns from one of your past two tax returns. 

Next step is to choose a user ID and password, along with selecting security questions and answers (this will be helpful if you need to retrieve your password). Keep in mind, If you forget your user ID, you will have to re-register all over again. Alternatively, you can set up your account using a sign-in partner

At this point, you will be able to have limited service of CRA’s My Account (this will give you access to view your Notice of Assessment and see the status of your refund).

CRA takes high-security measures to ensure that no-one other than yourself has access to your full CRA My Account information. In order to obtain full access to all of your CRA My Account features, you will need to enter a security code sent to you in the mail by CRA. This code is sent automatically once you have completed your limited enrollment. Once you have received your code by mail, you need to sign back into your CRA My Account and enter your code to complete your full registration. In other words, at this point, you will have full access and you will be able to view, change and your personal information easily.
